Ski Trip Day 5

Ski Trip Day 5

Annabelle attempted to sneak into breakfast with “The beret of shame”. Unfortunately for her, hiding the beret under her hoodie was always going to be spotted. Who will get it today? It’s a bit like Nanny McPhee – those who want it -never get it and those that get it - never want it.

Breakfast –cornflakes, rice crispies, French bread, croissant, pain au chocolat, fresh fruit, yoghurt, porridge and bacon sandwiches.

Skiing Report

A bit of musical chairs today. Mr Britten and Mr Martindale skied with different groups and were both impressed with the rapid progress the children have made. The weather is still perfect. Blue sky, sunshine, no wind and all the runs are open. We have been so lucky, it is by far the best conditions we have ever had.

Lunch – Chicken pie and chips, red pepper soup, yoghurt and fruit. There was also the first appearance of the week of tomato ketchup. Danielle and Rosemary declared it was the best lunch so far!

Highlights of the day

Mr Britten’s group returned to the slalom racing course. Children raced in pairs and all was going well until Lois raced Jessie. The idea of slalom is quite simple. You can either turn left around a gate or turn right around a gate. Jessie had other ideas. She didn’t turn left but she didn’t turn right either. Jessie went straight into the red gate. She managed to pull the entire gate 20metres down the course. A ski park worker was very close to the accident and ran quickly across the slope to repair his precious slalom course. Jessie was a little shaken – “I saw red, then white then black” However, it wasn’t long before she was back on the chair lift singing Eternal Flame and ready for the next challenge.

In the afternoon, the teachers swapped groups and both groups headed to the top of the mountain. The weather forecast tomorrow is for snow and the instructors were keen to get the groups to the top in case there is a problem with visibility tomorrow. Christian accused Mr Britten of never smiling while he skis. It was politely explained that he was far too busy concentrating on not breaking his legs to think about smiling. The children’s skiing has definitely improved. Dylan and Max have realised the importance of standing up on their skis, James is speeding ahead of the instructor and Francesca is now able to stop and only crash into one other skier instead of the usual six. Their instructor is called Didi. He decided that the children had mastered skiing forwards and gave them a lesson in skiing backwards. It was tremendous fun and Macy and Jessica seemed happier not being able to see where they were going. Anushka and Tatziana are getting very close to becoming members of the “parallel posse”. Some children have joined, some are close to joining and others are… really nice children ;)

More fun and games later with the usual awards and a report of the evening’s entertainment.
