Tuesday 12th April Ski Holiday morning
Breakfast at the hotel is at 8.00am each morning. This morning, all rooms had to be woken by staff to ensure they would be up in time. Are we finally tiring them out? Breakfast is a buffet system which requires the children to collect their breakfast from a central area and carry it back to the table. A skill which the children need to learn is the ability to carry a bowl of cornflakes without spilling milk on your shoes. It should be a simple operation, but isn’t. If on their return, you find a milk stained trainer or rogue cornflake inside a sock - you will know exactly where this has come from.
All three groups went off in different directions this morning. Mr Martindale’s group had some parallel turning drills to master. Mr Britten’s group skied 10km over the mountain to Chantermerle, some fantastic scenery and great skiing by everyone. Mrs Major’s group have progressed onto harder slopes. Alex, Pip, Amelia, Rosie, Isabella, Tatziana and Anushka are now skiing beautifully with poise and control. James P, Lewis M, Lewis R and Harvey are thrill seekers looking bigger jumps, steeper slopes and tighter corners. All they need to do is to perfect stopping!
Lunch brought the unusual sight of Mrs V tucking into chicken nuggets and chips. I’m sure she asked the waiter what part of the chicken was its nugget! Surprise, surprise the children attacked their plates and were soon ready for the highlight of the day - Room inspection.
A new saying has been invented by the group. Yesterday, Rohan managed to break the button lift. It was completely accidental but ever since if we see a broken lift the children say that someone has “Done a Rohan!” Rohan is delighted with this new found fame. Even when the chairlift broke halfway up the mountain, the sound echoed around from Briancon to Villeneuve “Someone’s done a Rohan!”
Still no injuries to report, sun cream is being applied before each session and the children all have a healthy rosy glow.
